BACKGROUND

I am a Lecturer of Chinese in Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at University of California, Davis. In May 2016, I received my Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition at the University of Iowa, after completing my dissertation "Comparison of the Comprehension of Three Types of Chinese Colloquial Idioms by Advanced Chinese L2 Learners" under the supervision of Prof. Helen H. Shen. My research and teaching focus on modern Chinese vocabulary and reading acquisition, second language development, teaching methodology, and cultural studies.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy of teaching is to provide a clasroom environment where students are motivated to explore Chinese language and culture. I believe that all of her students, with the help of the right teaching methods and tools, will be able to overcome any difficulties that the study of Chinese might pose.

At the end of each class, I want my students to remember the following about me as a Chinese teacher:

  • She creates a classroom environment, which encourages learner participation and involvement.

  • She cares about me as a person and values my contributions to coursework.

  • She facilitates learners to use Chinese in communicative situations we are likely to encounter in real life.

  • She provides students not only a chance to study Chinese language, but also an opportunity to be immersed in a different culture.

  • She integrates technological tools to enhance teaching and learning effects.
